Evenings and weekend GP appointments now available across east and north Hertfordshire

Patients registered with GP practices in east and north Hertfordshire are now able to book appointments as part of the ‘extended access’ service during evenings and weekends. The extended access service is part of a national initiative which launched across the country from the 1st of October.

The service will give those who are not able to get to their GP surgery during ‘normal working hours’, the option to see a GP or other health professional at a more accessible time.

NHS East and North Hertfordshire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) collected the views of over 16,000 people from across the area on the proposed service, and have since been working with local GPs and health professionals to develop the service and ensure it best meets the needs of patients.

Dr Prag Moodley, Chair of NHS East and North Hertfordshire CCG and a local GP in Stevenage, welcomed the introduction of extended access, “This service will come as great news to our patients. Those who struggle to access NHS services during weekdays can now do so at evenings and weekends. We are committed to ensuring services meet the changing needs and lifestyles of our patients and help people get help from the right NHS service.”

Appointments are available with both GPs and a range of other primary care health professionals, such as a practice nurse, and are typically delivered from ‘practice hubs’ across the area. Extended access appointments should be available to book either in advance or on the day itself.

To book an evening or weekend appointment, patients are recommended to contact their GP practice or visit their practice website. For further details please click on the link below. There is no guarantee patients will be seen by a GP from their surgery; however the GP will (with consent) have access to the patients’ medical records in order to give the best possible care.
